Judging Guidelines

There is not a more unique ocean destination in the world than the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaii’s unique culture and ocean environment has dictated beach fashion for decades. From the invention of surfing, hula, the flower lei to the world famous aloha shirts, board shorts, the radical beach culture and a large part of the beach fashion sense originated or was inspired in Hawaii. The surf culture of Hawaii is world renowned thanks to our world famous beaches, beautiful oceans and hot surf breaks. Our intent at SeaHawaiiTM is to celebrate the innovation and inspiration that Hawaii has created for all ocean destinations throughout the world through ocean fashion. We have created a competition where graphic artists and fashion designers around the world were offered the opportunity to showcase their talents of what “Hawaii” means to them.

Each designer was asked the following:
1) Why does this virtual fashion design contest based out of Hawaii appeal to you?

Objectives and Criteria of Competition:
Graphic Designers have been selected from various parts of the world to compete on creating and developing clothing and accessory products for a new line of “Ocean Sports- Wear” – which was to be branded with the SeaHawaiiTM name. The name is trademarked and registered. SeaHawaiiTM is a Native Hawaiian Owned/Operated Business based in Hawaii.
All entrants were asked to develop designs which were fun, young, trendy and yet have, show or imply, “Hawaii.” Designers needed to visit the website for logo design at www.seahawaii.com  – this logo, or variation thereof, was required to be somewhere on the garment. It was up to each designer to include it somewhere – broadly, discreetly graphically enhanced or simply straight forward. Colors, size and use of logo was up to each designer.

Each designer was allowed to submit not more than 6 of their best designs for each of the following four main categories: -
Category 1) Long Sleeve Rash Guard – UV protection from the sun– show front and back
Category 2) Men’s or Women’s Board Shorts or both – show front and back
Category 3) T shirts – unisex Ts – show front and back
Category 4) Tote Bags/ Beach Bags – show front and back

Alternative categories:
Tanks
Hangtags

We are asking the judges to select the top three designs for each of the four categories taking into account the criteria above.
